We always accept resumes - if you are interested in being considered for a role, email michael@secondstatecoffee.com with an updated resume and shoot your shot!
What we like to see in a potential candidate: you took the time to include the essentials - a brief message about yourself and what type of roles you seek, your preferred store location(s), and your availability.
As a general practice, we seek out long-term team members who will be with us a minimum of 3 months and minimum of 15 hours per week. For someone with amazing social skills and an eagerness to learn, we make exceptions!
We have 4 locations that frequently rotate our single-origin coffees featured as espresso, drip, and pour over. Each store's offering will vary based on weekly availability and the personality of that location.
While we love our furry friends, we can no longer accommodate pets inside and we may ask you to wait outside with your pet. You may sit outside on our patios with your pet as long as they are leashed and not disturbing other guests.
Service dogs are the exception. They must be leashed/harnessed and under control of the individual. Emotional support animals are not classified as service animals.

All 4 locations serve house made pastries with rotating seasonal selections.
Our Shelmore location offers a full service breakfast and lunch menu. Open to 2:30pm daily.
Our West Ashley location has an offering of toasts and gluten-free waffles. Open to 2:00 pm M-Sat
Each location offers free wifi. Please note that most of our locations are small - tables and outlets are extremely limited.

Final delivery date is always contingent upon shipping courier operations. On occasion, shipping couriers have delays outside of our control. Check your email for updates to courier provided tracking or email us at orders@secondstatecoffee.com to check on your purchase.
While we would love to hand stamp/sticker/notate our bags at some point, our small team does not have the capacity to consistently add this step at this time.
Fortunately, we roast small batches of coffee daily for shipping and we deliver fresh each week to our stores - you are guaranteed to have a fresh coffee when you purchase. These coffees will generally taste progressively better over several weeks as they off-gas their C02.
Coffee freshness, aromatic intensity, and flavor perception all rely on many factors from seed to cup, much more than roast date alone. Storage, grinding, water quality, and brewing technique will play more significant roles in the quality of your coffee.
For long-term storage, use a vacuum sealed container, stored away from moisture, heat, and light.
Don't have a container? No problem - with our resealable bags, your coffee can last on the counter for several weeks!
Note: Coffee is porous. It will absorb moisture and odors - for optimal flavor, open or non-vacuum sealed containers should not be put in the refrigerator or freezer.
Since coffee is a fruit that is cultivated at different times throughout the year in different countries, we source a rotating selection from all over the world!
We partner with trusted green coffee importers and exporters with long-standing, sustainable relationships with producers and farms.
All of our coffees are traceable, most are single-origin, many are single farm, and some are exclusive micro lots from incredible producers. We are proud to represent and roast each of their coffees!
We roast each bean to bring out its best qualities, so this will be coffee dependent. To highlight as much origin and terroir as possible, the majority of our coffees are developed on the light to medium spectrum.
Our 'darkest' roast in stores (closer to a traditional medium) is our Heavy Weight Blend. Online, our most developed coffees are our Stealth and Prizefighter.
This scale refers to the expected flavors in coffee and is noted online for each of our bags.
If a coffee is marked more towards "Traditional", you can expect typical coffee flavors (nutty, chocolatey) with lower acidity levels. With coffees marked more towards "Modern", you can expect juicier coffees with flavors like citrus, floral, fruit, etc. The most modern coffees will be boldly fruity, wine-like, funky, and extremely unique.
We prefer to base our green coffee purchases on quality over specific 'marketable' certifications. Fair Trade guarantees producers $1.80 per pound of coffee. We pay well over this price per pound for our coffees, even up to 10x-15x more per pound for our microlots.
Although most coffee producers engage in organic, sustainable, and biodynamic agricultural practices, many do not have the funding, infrastructure, or desire to receive annual certifications, narrowing their market and their profits.
We choose to direct our attention to relationship based coffee sourcing that offers high-quality, thoughtfully processed, and traceable beans! Curious about a particular coffee? We share farm and process details for every bean on each product page.
Our coffees are roasted in small batches by a small team of two people Monday through Friday. We do not operate on Saturday or Sunday.
Our cafes are stocked with fresh 12oz. whole bean coffee every Wednesday/Thursday.
Our roastery/warehouse is not open to the public at this time. If you are interested in a wholesale partnership with us and are curious to try some coffees or connect with our team, email wholesale@secondstatecoffee.com
