    Great coffee doesn’t have to stop at the café. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the essential skills needed to start making amazing espresso drinks using home equipment. In partnership with Fellow, we'll help you step up your coffee game and reach your "second state" of knowledge in this Introductory Home Espresso class using world class equipment made with the coffee enthusiast in mind.

    Overview

    Designed for coffee enthusiasts and aspiring home baristas, this class covers a general introduction to espresso equipment and coffee, espresso extraction, milk steaming, and everyday troubleshooting. You’ll learn how to prep your own home station, choose beans, dial in your espresso, recognize under- and over-extraction, and steam silky milk for lattes and cappuccinos.

    Whether you’re new to espresso or looking to get more from your equipment, this course will help you build the confidence to brew consistently better coffee at home.

    What You’ll Learn
    • How to decode bag labels and identify the right coffee for you
    • How light roast vs dark roast impact flavor and brewing
    • How to identify a good coffee in the context of under-extracted, balanced, and over-extracted shots
    • Techniques for distributing, leveling, and preparing espresso
    • Fundamentals of milk steaming and texturing
    • Tips and tricks for preparing the best home set-up and getting consistent coffee

    Class Duration: ~2.5-3 hours

    Who loves coffee classes?

    Our classes have been a hit with bachelor/bachelorette parties, friends and families on vacation, dedicated coffee nerds, companies seeking fun team building activities, and casual sippers who just want an experience that is out of the ordinary!

    No experience necessary - this class is for any and all curious to learn more about coffee. We do recommend this class for ages 12 and up (accompanied by a guardian under the age of 16).

    Can you book for a group?

    We typically max classes to 4-6 students but have made exceptions depending on the group and time duration. If you would like to request a private party/event group rate tailored to your team or needs, please email brianna@secondstatecoffee.com

    Can I take this online?
