Seventy-five kilometers beyond Yirgacheffe, deep in the heart of some of Ethiopia's best coffee country, is where you will find the rich, fruit-forward coffees of the two-hundred hectare Hambela farm. Hambela includes a washing station, dry mill, drying beds and a large warehouse, all in the Oromia state of Guji. This site is managed by METAD, a family company founded by community leader Aman Adinew, that has worked closely with our importer friends at Balzac Brothers over the last few years. METAD owns Africa's first SCA-certified quality control lab and the company provides post-harvest training and health benefits to its employees. Between the Gedeb and Hambela washing stations, METAD is employing a total of twenty-eight permanent staff members and seven-hundred seasonal employees. Over seventy percent of these staff members are women.
